Historic downtown buildings are the biggest assets in community revitalization. Often, these properties suffer from deferred maintenance and other issues that may compromise their architectural and structural integrity. Heritage Ohio is pleased to announce the Preservation Assessment Workshop program to help identify and educate the public on preservation best practices. Thanks to the generous support of the Ohio General Assembly, we are able to offer this 1.5 day workshop to Ohio communities at a significantly reduced workshop fee.
Communities that sign up to host a Preservation Assessment Workshop will benefit from the expertise of Mr. David Mertz, former director of the renowned Building Preservation/Restoration Program at Belmont College. The 1.5 day workshop consists of an evening lecture (free and open to the general public) where he will discuss common building maintenance issues and best practices in preservation. On the second day, Dave will offer up to 5 one-on-one building assessments for downtown property owners, where he will tour the property, discuss potential problem areas of concern, and provide suggestions for tackling these maintenance issues.
