Revitalization Series Workshop: The Dollars & Sense of Historic Redevelopment

Vacant and underutilized downtown buildings are the hidden assets of community revitalization, yet developing these properties can be a challenge. Join Heritage Ohio and Corey Leon, Senior Field Director with Grow America, for a full day, deep dive course on real estate development. This course will offer a step-by-step look at the development process from the perspective of lenders, developers and investors. Participants analyze economic development real estate projects—retail, office, mixed-use—using the rates of return required by lenders, developers and investors, and determine the appropriate amount of public sector financing needed to make projects feasible. Public sector financing tools and techniques, including tax credits, designed to attract, leverage and complement private financing, are utilized to maximize equity while minimizing the amount of public investment.

Barb recently retired from the State Historic Preservation Office of the Ohio History Connection where she headed the Inventory & Registration Department overseeing the Ohio Archaeological Inventory, Ohio Historic Inventory, and National Register of Historic Places programs.
